There are a lot of myths surrounding laser hair removal and the safety of the procedure. At Precision Aesthetics, our laser hair removal treatments are performed with the CoolGlide Laser, the best laser hair removal tool on the market for all skin types and tones. Using advanced technology, the CoolGlide handpiece delivers a pulse of light while its cooling features soothe the treatment area, ensuring the greatest comfort while delivering maximum results.
The Hair Removal Process
During your initial consultation, our trained laser hair removal specialists will assess the thickness of the hair, your hair’s growth cycle, and the location of the growth, and will offer a customized treatment plan for your needs.
The CoolGlide Laser handpiece delivers concentrated pulses of light directly to the hair follicle, effectively killing the follicle where it originates. Some patients report a pinching or stinging sensation, but no local anesthesia or pain medication is needed. For sensitive areas, such as underarms or bikini line, patients may opt for topical anesthetic.
What to Expect
Typical reactions to laser hair removal are reddened or swollen skin, or a feeling similar to sunburn. This subsides within several hours. It is rare for side effects stronger than this to occur, particularly when treatments are performed by a trained professional. Changes in pigmentation are possible, though temporary. Sometimes blistering or skin crusting can occur, usually if there is sun exposure too early following treatment. There is also the potential for scarring in patients who scar easily. These more serious side effects are more common with in-home laser hair removal kits. With a trained professional, most patients experience minimal side effects, no downtime, and are able to immediately return to an active schedule.
Laser Hair Removal Consultations Available
Within the first week, patients frequently report what seems like a resurgence of hair growth, but generally this is the hair in the treated area falling out. Because follicles have three distinct cycles, growth, regression, and resting, 3-6 treatments are recommended to optimize results by killing the follicles that become active when the first treated follicles are shed.
Myths and Facts
Laser hair removal does not cause skin cancer. According to the Skin Cancer Foundation, hair removal lasers are sometimes used to treat certain precancerous lesions.
Laser hair removal does not cause infertility. Hair removal lasers only penetrate the upper layer of the dermis, the layer that contains the hair follicles, sweat glands, and connective tissues. There is no risk the light pulses will reach the internal reproductive organs, so you can be assured no matter the treatment area chosen, the procedure is safe and effective.
Laser hair removal does not make hair grow. The light pulses in hair removal lasers such as the CoolGlide destroys the hair follicle, not the other way around.
